FAQ

Your HVAC Questions Answered

Over 10 years of customer questions — we've heard them all. Here are the most important answers.

General HVAC Questions

How often should I service my HVAC system?

We recommend servicing your HVAC system at least twice a year — once in spring before air conditioning season and once in fall before heating season. Regular maintenance extends system life, improves efficiency, and prevents unexpected breakdowns.

How long does an HVAC system last?

A well-maintained central air conditioner typically lasts 12–17 years. A furnace or heat pump can last 15–20 years. Ductless mini-split systems often last 20+ years. Regular professional maintenance significantly extends these lifespans.

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

A general rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds 50% of the cost of a new system, or your system is over 10 years old and breaking down repeatedly, replacement is usually the smarter long-term investment. Our technicians will always give you an honest recommendation. We'll show you both options with exact cost breakdowns so you can make the best decision for your budget.

What size HVAC system do I need for my home?

HVAC sizing is calculated using a Manual J Load Calculation, which accounts for your home's square footage, insulation levels, number of windows, ceiling height, local climate, and more. An oversized system will short-cycle (turn on and off too frequently), while an undersized one will run constantly. Our technicians perform a proper load calculation — never just guessing by square footage alone.

Cost & Pricing

Do you provide free estimates?

Yes! We provide free, no-obligation estimates for HVAC installations and replacements. For repairs, we charge a diagnostic fee that is waived if you proceed with the repair. We always provide the full quote before starting any work — no surprise charges.

How much does a new HVAC system cost in Los Angeles?

HVAC installation costs in the Los Angeles area typically range from $4,000–$12,000 for a full system depending on the size, brand, efficiency rating (SEER2), and whether new ductwork is needed. Mini-split systems for one or two rooms can start around $2,500–$5,000. We'll give you a precise quote after our free in-home assessment. We also help with utility rebates that can significantly offset costs.

Are there rebates available for HVAC upgrades in California?

Yes! California residents can access several rebate programs: LADWP (LA Department of Water and Power), SCE (Southern California Edison), SoCalGas, and California's TECH Clean California program all offer rebates for high-efficiency heat pumps, smart thermostats, and energy-efficient HVAC systems. Our team can identify which rebates you qualify for and assist with the paperwork.

Emergency Service

Do you offer 24/7 emergency HVAC service?

Yes! Energy Control HVAC offers 24/7 emergency service across Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Bernardino County. When you call our emergency line, you'll speak directly with a live technician — not a voicemail. We aim to have a tech on-site within 2 hours for true emergencies.

My AC stopped working suddenly — what should I check first?

Before calling, check: 1) Your thermostat is set to "Cool" and set below room temperature. 2) Your air filter isn't completely clogged. 3) Your circuit breaker for the AC unit hasn't tripped. 4) The condensate drain line isn't backed up (which triggers a safety shutoff). If these all check out and it's still not working, call us at (323) 799-0911 for fast diagnosis.

Service Area & Scheduling

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Los Angeles County (including the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, South Bay, and Westside), all of Orange County, and the greater San Bernardino / Inland Empire area. If you're not sure whether we cover your location, call us at (323) 799-0911 and we'll confirm immediately.

How quickly can you get to my home?

For routine scheduled services, we typically offer next-day or same-day appointments depending on technician availability. For emergency situations, our goal is to have a technician on-site within 2 hours. We also offer same-day service for non-emergency repairs when slots are available — call early to secure your time.

Do you work on commercial HVAC systems?

Yes! We service both residential and commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units (RTUs), VRF/VRV systems, chillers, and commercial split systems. We work with offices, retail stores, restaurants, warehouses, and industrial facilities throughout Southern California.
